Find Coverage Requests in Shift
Workers who cannot make an assigned shift can offer it directly to eligible teammates, with routine claims decided by your rules.
When a worker could not make an assigned shift, managers usually had to find a replacement themselves and decide each request by hand.
What's new
Worker initiated coverage — a worker opens an assigned shift and selects Find Coverage. Where Drop Shift is also enabled, the option sits under Can't Make This Shift.
Offered to eligible teammates — the shift appears in Open shifts as a claimable shift for teammates who meet its job and location requirements, and they are notified the same way as for any other claimable shift.
Your claim rules apply — claims are approved by the same Claim Shift auto-approval rules you already use at that location or location group. Claims that no rule approves go to a manager for review.
Auto-decline rules — decide who can ask for coverage. For example, with a rule for shifts starting in less than three days, workers don't see Find Coverage on those shifts.
A deadline you set — administrators set how long before the shift starts a request expires, down to 15 minutes before.
Schedule visibility — the shift block shows managers when the assigned worker is seeking coverage.
Why it matters
Shifts get filled faster and managers spend less time coordinating backfill, while job and location eligibility, warnings, reliability, scheduled hours and time between shifts all stay part of the decision.
What to expect
A Find Coverage Request is not a release from the shift. The original worker stays scheduled until a claim is approved, and receives a text when a teammate covers it. If no one claims the shift by the deadline, the request closes and the original worker receives a text confirming the shift is still theirs. Reassigning the shift or making it claimable cancels the request. Find Coverage Requests are turned on and configured for each location or location group.
