Applicant Consent Updates for SMS and Calls for Every Hire Customer
Disclosure-based consent for SMS and calls is on for every Hire customer, with new controls for marketing consent, one-way SMS opt-outs and applicants who never see a Fountain application form.
Application forms asked applicants to tick transactional checkboxes before they could be texted about the job they applied for, and applicants created by CSV, the API or direct apply channels could arrive with consent missing or inferred.
What's new
Disclosure instead of transactional checkboxes — Fountain application forms show a disclosure under the phone field, with US and non-US wording. Submitting the form records transactional SMS and call consent.
Marketing stays separate — an optional Future opportunities section carries the marketing text and call checkboxes, both unchecked by default.
Choose whether to ask for marketing consent — a company setting controls whether applicants are asked. It is on by default. When it is off, the Future opportunities section is hidden and applicants are recorded as not consented to marketing, so they are not eligible for Pool outreach.
Consent on every way an applicant is created — CSV imports require the four consent columns with an explicit true or false value, the four consent fields are available on Create Applicant in the API, and Indeed Apply and ZipRecruiter applicants see the same disclosure as the application form.
Link-based opt-out for one-way SMS — messages sent from a one-way sender include a short opt-out link instead of STOP instructions, and tapping it records the same opt-out as a STOP reply. Two-way numbers keep STOP and START as they are.
Why it matters
More applicants stay reachable about the job they applied for, and one consent standard applies whether an applicant comes in through the application form, a CSV import, the API or a direct apply channel.
What to expect
Customers who create applicants by API or CSV are responsible for the consent values they send, because those applicants never see a Fountain form. Create Applicant will require all four consent fields in a later update, and existing integrations keep working until then. A one-way SMS opt-out stops texts from that company to that phone number for every application.
