New in Shift | Automatic Break Deductions

DATE:
AUTHOR: The Fountain team

GA Date: February 19, 2026

Shift customers can now configure automatic, rule-based break deductions directly within location settings.

What’s new

Automatic, rule-based break deductions

Managers can create rules that automatically add break time to timesheets that meet defined conditions. This reduces the need for manual adjustments and helps ensure breaks are applied consistently.

Designed to work with worker-logged breaks

If a timesheet meets an automatic break rule and a worker has also logged their own break, both entries may appear on the timesheet.

To prevent duplicate break entries, managers can include an “Actual Break Duration” condition in their rule configuration.

Customer impact

This update removes a manual step that scheduling and payroll teams previously handled by logging breaks on workers’ behalf. With rule-based deductions, break time is applied automatically when conditions are met — helping reduce administrative effort and improve consistency.

Who this is for: All Shift customers.
