Turn Off Worker Portal Time Tracking in Shift

DATE:
AUTHOR: The Fountain team

Choose whether workers clock in and out through the Worker Portal or through another system, and tell them where to go.

Workers always saw clock-in and clock-out buttons in the Worker Portal, even when their employer expected them to record time in another system, which left them with two places to clock in and unclear instructions.

What's new

  • Worker Portal time tracking setting — a Worker Portal: Time Tracking section in Shift's general settings controls whether workers can clock in and out from the Worker Portal.

  • Show your own instructions — add an optional message, such as "Please clock in using Google", that workers see in place of the clock-in button before a shift starts and the clock-out button once it's underway.

  • Keep schedules in Shift — workers still see their schedules in Shift while their time is recorded in the system you choose.

Why it matters

Workers get one clear place to record time instead of two competing ones, and you can tell them exactly where to go.

What to expect

Worker Portal time tracking stays on by default, so nothing changes until an admin turns it off. When it's off, clock-in and clock-out events need to reach Shift from your other system, so test that connection before you turn it off.

Availability

Available to all Shift customers.
